Sunscreen, Dramamine and Lipstick
This year, I went to the Galapagos Islands with my family 🏝️. It really was a trip of a lifetime. If you are not familiar with the Galapagos Islands, they are a group of islands off the coast of Ecuador. They are famous because in 1835 Charles #Darwin studied the unique Galapagos wildlife and based on his time there wrote "On the Origin of Species." In this book, he first presented the theory of evolution by natural selection and basically described how species evolve.
When we booked our trip, as a person who has studied science most of my life, I was beyond excited, but I was nervous at the same time. The problem is I get extremely seasick 🤢. Even though I live in Miami, I never go on boats...EVER! But when you go to the #Galapagos Islands most of your time is spent on boats visiting the various islands. Even though it was a place I wanted to visit for as long as I could remember, I was worried that my trip would be ruined. I did tons of research on how to prevent seasickness and brought provisions: Dramamine, Seabands and even motion sickness patches.
When we first landed ✈️, we had to take a bus🚐 from the airport to the shore, and then a ferry 🛥️ across the channel, and then a 45- minute car 🚘 drive to the hotel. Let's just say, both my son and I took our first dose of Dramamine when we landed...and luckily for us IT WORKED! But the real test was the next day. We had a two-hour boat trip to Bartolome Island. I applied my sunscreen, took my Dramamine, put on lipstick and crossed my fingers. And, for the first time ever, I was able to be on a boat without feeling sick 😄. I was so relieved that I was able to enjoy one of the most unique places in the world.
You know I love animals and we were up close and personal with sea lions, flamingos, giant tortoises, all types of exotic birds and even the famous blue footed booby. From this trip, I learned that in life sometimes you have to get out of your comfort zone, so you don't miss out.
