Did you know that gluten allergies can actually cause blisters in the skin?
That’s right...if you are allergic to gluten one of the symptoms can be a skin rash. Over the last 15 years, I have diagnosed a few people who thought they had #eczema with #dermatitis herpetiformis, a gluten allergy that we see in the skin. Dermatitis herpetiformis presents as a very itchy rash on pressure points like the elbows, knees and buttocks. Sometimes fluid filled blisters are present. It is diagnosed by a special skin biopsy that looks for antibodies in the skin. Although eczema is much more common, I always think of a #gluten allergy when eczema is not responding to traditional therapies. The treatment is simple, eliminate gluten from the diet and the rash goes away.
