How to Regrow Your Edges

How can I regrow my edges? This is a common question I get asked in the office. Thinning of the frontal hairline often occurs after tight braids or extensions. The most important thing to address for thinning edges is to prevent them in the first place. Here's how:

AVOID TIGHT HAIRSTYLES. I cannot emphasize this enough because prevention is key. However, once you already have thinning there are a few things you can do to help grow your edges back.

How to grow your edges back

First, take a hair vitamin. These work by making your existing hair stronger. Choose one with at least 5000mcg of biotin for the best results.

Second, never do braids or extensions on chemically relaxed hair. This has been proven to increase your risk of traction alopecia by 5 times!

You can use a hair oil on the frontal hairline to improve moisture and therefore reduce breakage of existing hair. There are conflicting studies on the use of massage to grow hair however, this certainly won't hurt and may, in fact, help to encourage new growth.

Be sure to see a dermatologist for any type of hair loss. If there is inflammation in the scalp steroid creams or injections may help. For severe hair loss in this area, even hair transplants have been used with excellent results.
