Lip plumpers actually contain mild irritants to cause swelling and a fuller pout. Because lips are one of the most sensitive parts of our body, these irritants can cause puffiness and plump the lips. That is why many people experience some tingling or stinging when using a lip plumper. Unfortunately, in people who are truly allergic, the reaction may not be so subtle. Most products contain a combination of the ingredients below:

  • cinnamon

  • peppermint

  • menthol

  • camphor

  • capsaicin (from chili pepper)

Lip plumpers look tempting but, buyer beware. I have seen some pretty scary reactions to this common beauty hack.
